The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Using AI Tools for Your Business Website
I’ve developed a few websites over the years, each one a unique journey of creativity and exploration. For me, the process of conceptualizing a project is crucial. I often spend hours crafting the vision, brainstorming ideas, and discarding those that don’t quite fit. It’s a creative process I genuinely love – there’s something incredibly satisfying about watching a project take shape from a simple concept to a fully realized creation. I love translating my creative ideas, as well as the creative visions of my clients, into something tangible.
Recently, I decided to experiment with AI tools to create a website for a new project. While I still indulged in my usual process of ideation and creative exploration – because that’s where the real fun lies for me – I noticed something incredible once I started using AI to build the website. I was able to pull everything together in a matter of minutes – something that would have taken much longer in the past.
It sounds almost too good to be true, right? But as with all things, there’s more to the story. Let me walk you through what I discovered after successfully conceptualizing, designing, and publishing a new website with the help of AI.
The Good: Unleashing Creativity and Efficiency
One of the most surprising aspects of using AI in this project was how it enhanced my workflow. The AI took care of the more mundane tasks – like formatting and image resizing – freeing me up to focus on the creative vision. This allowed me to experiment more, trying out new ideas without worrying about the time it would take to implement them. The experience was liberating. It felt like having an extra set of hands to bring my vision to life, allowing me to explore more possibilities and make quicker decisions.
Another benefit was the speed. I could get a fully functional website up and running in record time. This efficiency meant that I could spend more time refining the concept, tweaking the details, and ensuring the final product truly aligned with my creative vision.
The Bad: The Risks and Challenges
However, as much as I appreciated the efficiency, I found myself missing the hands-on experience that I cherish. AI can be incredibly helpful, but it can’t replace the satisfaction that comes from doing the work myself, from getting lost in the creative process. I truly love diving deep into the creative process, and often find myself crafting and shaping things until they come to life.
Another challenge I encountered was that while the AI-generated templates was impressive, it still required careful editing. In fact, it required a lot of editing at the first stage. There were moments when the designs weren’t responsive, didn’t quite fit the overall aesthetic, or lacked the unique character that comes from human creativity. It was a clear reminder that while AI is powerful, it still needs a human touch to truly shine.
The Ugly: Potential Pitfalls and Worst-Case Scenarios
This experience also made me aware of the potential downsides of relying too much on AI. What if I had let the AI take over completely? I might have ended up with a website that wasn’t functional—and I might not have discovered the issues without proper testing and improvement. It’s a thought that gave me pause.
There’s also a risk of losing touch with the craft itself. If we delegate too much to AI, we might miss out on the joy and learning that come from doing the work ourselves—the moments of frustration and breakthrough that define the creative process. It’s those moments that make the end product truly our own.
Moreover, there’s the potential danger of becoming overly dependent on AI, leading to a homogenization of creativity where unique, personal touches get lost in favor of what’s easy or efficient. The art of creating websites – or any project, for that matter – could become just another automated task, devoid of the soul and passion that only a human can inject.
This Is the End… Not Quite 😄
AI tools are amazing, and there’s no doubt they’re here to stay. But this experience reminded me that while AI can enhance our work, it’s important not to lose sight of the creative process that we love. The real magic happens when we blend AI’s efficiency with our own creativity, ensuring that our work remains personal and meaningful.
So, whether you’re just starting with AI or have been using it for a while, remember to keep your creative process at the center. That’s what will make your work truly stand out.
P.S. The website is fully online and functional, and it’s so good that it can’t be opened on some browsers due to DNS/cache issues. So if you have extra security installed, you may need to disable it.😂
