I’ve never shared this story with you, so here it is.

As a child and teenager, I was deeply engrossed in writing poems. It was a profound love. The spark was lit when a schoolmate penned a poem, which captivated me so much that fragments of it linger in my memory to this day. Inspired, I crafted my own poem in response, marking the commencement of a long journey. I wrote passionately for years, safeguarding my notebooks filled with poems, even bringing them with me to Switzerland. While I won’t delve into their contents here, this recent reflection reminded me of my enduring passion for writing, creating, and engaging with others who share this zeal. It’s a joy unparalleled.

Writing, the act of translating thoughts onto paper, serves not only to clear our minds of the relentless ‘monkey mind’. More crucially, it allows us to grant voice to untold stories, to the dreams in our hearts, and to the sorrows of our souls. It can transform into a cathartic experience.

Science underscores the value of engaging in creative writing. Immerse Education highlights the significance of nurturing and practising creative writing for its ability to enhance vital skills such as observation, reflection, critical thinking, reasoning, communication, empathy, and creativity. Forbes identifies Critical Thinking, Creativity, and Emotional Intelligence as three of the top ten most sought-after skills for the forthcoming decade.

Creative writing is therapeutic. For me, it’s a process of transferring thoughts and emotions onto paper, a medium that offers no judgment. It’s a practice of releasing ideas and feelings, shedding what no longer serves us.

Elizabeth Gilbert, in her book Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear, speaks eloquently about creativity and ideas: “I believe that our planet is inhabited not only by animals and plants and bacteria and viruses, but also by ideas. Ideas are a disembodied, energetic life-form. They are completely separate from us, but capable of interacting with us – albeit strangely. Ideas have no material body, but they do have consciousness, and they most certainly have will.

Ideas are driven by a single impulse: to be made manifest. And the only way an idea can be made manifest in our world is through collaboration with a human partner.

It is only through a human’s efforts that an idea can be escorted out of the ether and into the realm of the actual.”

You might laugh, but I truly believe in the above as well. My deepest desire is to manifest and implement all the creative ideas that come to me and invite me to collaborate.

When was the last time you allowed yourself the time and space to reflect and write something down? What ideas are you currently exploring?

This Creative Bite serves just as a beautiful reminder for all of us to continue writing and creating.

But to clarify, I’m not crafting poems these days (though, should I revisit that?). Instead, Paolo Gambi is taking the lead, joining me as a guest and collaborator for a Poetry Coaching session. Will you join us? Poetry Coaching with Paolo
