Jiali Feng (b. 1963, Chongqing) is a prolific painter, video and land-artist, and curator whose practice spans over three decades across Beijing and New York. She graduated with a BA from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1990, followed by advanced training in the Sixth Oil Painting Workshop at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1993.
A committed cross-disciplinary creator, Feng works in painting, video installation, mixed media, and large-scale land art. In 1998 she founded Siren Art Studio, through which she has championed collaborative curatorial projects for Beijing’s Shangyuan Art District, including Each for Art, Shape. Appearance, and Hello, Here!. Her land-art interventions have featured at the 2023 Long Island Land Art Festival, and she delivered a special lecture on “Female Identity and Ecological Nature” the same year.
Feng’s solo exhibition Wandering premiered in New York in 2024. Her work has been exhibited more than 100 times across major cultural centers—including New York, Basel, Luxembourg, Prague, South Africa, Budapest, Cuba, Hong Kong, Macau, and throughout China—and published in leading art journals and media outlets.
Her accolades include the Women’s Art Academic Award at the Century Women’s Art Exhibition, a Nomination Award at the 12th National Art Exhibition, and the Academic Award at the Women’s Art Biennale. Through a practice that bridges material forms and ecological concerns, Feng Jiali continues to explore themes of identity, environment, and cultural resonance on a global scale. Learn more here.
My overall direction remains consistent — to create from the perspective of female identity. I also hope to explore a broader view that navigates between Eastern and Western cultures, blending and creating through this dynamic. I’m interested in becoming more involved in social practices and in integrating art with nature, science, and everyday life. Cross-disciplinary and cross-genre artistic creation fascinates me. At the end of this year, I will be working with scientists in New York to see how science and art can spark new ideas — I’m truly looking forward to this kind of creative experience. In the future, I hope to continue engaging in more forms of artistic expression beyond traditional easel painting.
