Shi Liu is a multimedia artist based between Los Angeles and Beijing, whose work investigates the increasingly porous boundaries between human nature and robotic intelligence. With a deep focus on how rapid technological advancement shapes individual experience, perception, and identity, Liu constructs poignant visual narratives that address both the promises and anxieties of a technologized future.

Her interdisciplinary practice spans installation, video, and machine-generated drawing, often merging programming and robotics with traditional craft techniques such as silk painting, ceramics, and wood joinery. By bridging ancient mythology with futuristic imagination, Liu creates a singular visual language where the handmade and the machine-made coexist, offering viewers a space to reflect on continuity, disruption, and transformation across eras.

Before committing to her artistic career full-time, Liu founded several successful ventures in the robotics industry. This entrepreneurial experience deeply informs her understanding of the ethical, emotional, and existential dimensions of artificial intelligence and automation—concepts that run throughout her body of work.

Her art has been exhibited internationally and has been acquired by institutions such as Brown Investments and the Penang State Art Gallery, signaling growing recognition for her thoughtful interrogation of contemporary technological culture.

Through her evolving practice, Shi Liu continues to explore the tensions between technology and humanity, tradition and innovation, offering profound reflections on the shifting nature of existence in the digital age. Learn more here.
