Yang Na (b. 1982) is a Beijing–based contemporary painter whose canvases serve as portals to fantastical, surreal realms. Trained at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute—where she earned both her B.A. and M.A. in Oil Painting—Yang Na has exhibited more widely than she has traveled herself, her work traversing the globe from the Grand Palais in Paris to the Sharjah Art Museum in the United Arab Emirates.

Her distinctive visual language, often described as “Illusory Realism,” springs from a surreal fusion of dualities: mind and soul, reality and dreams, rationality and emotion. In these liminal spaces, human and beast, civilization and wilderness, entwine in states of existential self–generation and omnipresence. Drawing on fragments of contemporary life and empowering them with the wings of imagination, Yang Na’s paintings wrestle with the contradictions that shape our inner worlds.

Over the past decade, her work has been featured at leading institutions including the Wereldmuseum in Rotterdam; the Power Station of Art in Shanghai; the Today Art Museum in Beijing; TEDA Contemporary Art Museum in Tianjin; Chongqing Art Museum and Jiangshan Art Museum in Chongqing; Sichuan University Art Museum; MOCA Yinchuan; MOCA Taipei; and the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei, among others.

Through her richly layered compositions and dream-scapes, Yang Na invites viewers into a dialogue between the tangible and the imagined—challenging us to confront the oppositions that define our existence and to discover new forms of harmony within them. Learn more here.
