Future of Humanity Art Walk at Davos
Ernst Alexander Rubli, born in 1948 in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, is a multidisciplinary artist whose work delves into the profound connection between imagery, aphorisms, and the human psyche. Based in Stein am Rhein, Rubli’s practice spans decades of exploration in drawing, printmaking, and aphoristic writing, creating works that invite viewers into deeply personal and contemplative journeys.
Trained in manual printmaking techniques at the Zurich School of Applied Arts and inspired by studies in philosophy and art in Zurich and Aix-en-Provence, Rubli has combined his technical mastery with a unique approach to storytelling. His art often merges black-and-white graphics with aphorisms, forming evocative narratives that explore themes such as mythology, daily life, eroticism, and mortality. His intricate drawings are crafted using ink, pencil, and mixed media, often on A3-sized paper, and reflect both direct and hidden meanings that unfold over time.
Rubli’s career includes numerous exhibitions, including shows with the Schaffhausen Art Association and a major solo exhibition in Konstanz, Germany. His works, often exhibited in the atmospheric cellar of his home in Ramsen, offer a deeply introspective experience, challenging viewers to engage with the layered narratives embedded in his art.
"I hope that unfavorable visions of the future will be paralyzed in favor of realistic ideas."
